The Arts Council of Big Sky invites the community to get dressed up, get a little weird, and hit the dance floor at the fifth annual Skull & Roses Ball, featuring live music from Cosmic Possum, on Friday, October 30 at Tip Up Bar and Restaurant in the Big Sky Town Center.
Now in its fifth year, the Skull & Roses Ball has become a favorite fall tradition in Big Sky, bringing together live music, costumes, dancing, and plenty of Halloween spirit. This year’s celebration will feature Cosmic Possum, providing the soundtrack for a night designed to bring the community together and kick off an epic weekend of Halloween festivities in true Big Sky style. Guests are encouraged to come in costume—whether Grateful Dead-themed or dressed up in true Skull and Roses style—and be ready to dance. Prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories.
“The Skull & Roses Ball is really just about having fun together,” said Brian Hurlbut, Executive Director of the Arts Council of Big Sky. “It’s one of those nights when people can dress up, hear great live music, and enjoy being part of this community. We’re excited to celebrate five years of it with Cosmic Possum.”
Hailing from Park City, Utah, the musicians in Cosmic Possum are from somewhere else, but found a home in the mountains. The band is comprised of veterans of various other Summit County and Utah bands, including drummer Ron Reilly (the Wyld, Silver Strike, the Detonators), guitarist Doug Worthen (The Pranksters, Silver King, Kaleb Austin, Bone), bassist Drew Frink (Small House Strings), guitarist Matt Nagel (Silver Strike, Shane Lee Band, Black River Brethren) and organist Keith Pennell (Midnight Moonlight). The band performs a selection of songs that span the career of the Grateful Dead, along with a handful of other classic tunes that let the crowd know that the magic is in the jam, following the moment and bringing the audience along for the trip. Recent performances include Heber Market on Main, Park City Arts Fest, Canyons Village and the Newpark Concert Series. Cosmic Possum also played a successful two-show run last winter at Tips Up, exposing the Big Sky audience to their brand of cosmic rock and roll.
Tickets are only $20 in advance and on sale now at bigskyarts.org. Proceeds from the Skull & Roses Ball support the Arts Council of Big Sky and its mission to enrich the community through artistic experiences.
